Women’s Connection of TSTI Help at the Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., July 5, 2017 – Members of the Women’s Connection, the multi-generational women’s group at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange participated in the synagogue’s monthly volunteer day at the Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges (IFPO) on June 28. TSTI is one of four area houses of worship that support the food pantry, which helps meet essential human needs of food-insecure residents of Orange and East Orange, N.J. with dignity and respect. The pantry ( operates at the Church of the Epiphany and Christ Church, 105 Main Street in Orange.

The TSTI volunteers pick up groceries and assist clients as they select their preferred items, as well as conduct food drives to help keep the pantry shelves filled. Several Women’s Connection members are also on the IFPO board: Janet Schwamm of Short Hills (2nd from right) is the IFPO volunteer coordinator and has been active at the pantry for nearly 18 years; Karyn Boosin Leit (4th from left) of Maplewood is the TSTI-IFPO liaison and coordinates the Reform synagogue’s “Second Saturday” soup kitchen initiative; and Lisa Goldberg Ozer of West Orange (to Leit’s right) is on the organization’s board. Cyndy Wyatt of Short Hills (not pictured), serves on the IFPO board of trustees and handles client intake and management.

Other Women’s Connection members who volunteered at IFPO are (left to right) Sharon Reiter-Lindberg, Women’s Connection President Alison Oxman and Alice Hirsch of South Orange, Ivy Bernstein of Millburn and Quinn Joy of South Orange. Standing behind the women is Rabbi Daniel Cohen of TSTI.
