Caryl Bixon-Gordon Outlines Public Relations Strategies at Recent Rotary District Meeting
President of Caryl Communications, Inc. is Active Member of Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club
HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J., Feb. 3, 2010 - At a recent Rotary District 7490 meeting, Caryl Bixon-Gordon, president of Caryl Communications, Inc. and secretary of the Paramus Sunrise Rotary club, spoke to members of district clubs about public relations strategies to help spread the word about Rotary, it's events and accomplishments.
"I feel that the ideals of Rotary, such as the four-way test, and the emphasis on ‘service above self' is something that makes every Rotary project newsworthy," noted Bixon-Gordon. The four-way test of the things Rotarians think, say and do states: "Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?"
Bixon-Gordon showcased news releases and resulting news clips that highlighted activities of the Paramus Sunrise club, "a very active club," she noted. She advised club members to take photos at all events, since "a well-taken photograph will go a long way to encourage your story to be picked up."
The Paramus Sunrise Rotary club was chartered in June 2008. Since its inception, the group has donated to Theo's Work, Children's Aid and Family Services, Freedom Walk Kids of America, Turn a Frown Around Foundation, Pony Power and the Rotary Paul Harris Foundation. In addition, the group's first annual fashion show in May 2009 raised more than $10,000 for Rotary's Gift of Life, which afforded Lacy-Ann, a sick child from Jamaica, the opportunity to travel to the U.S. for life-saving heart surgery.
