TSTI Religious School and Preschool Families Enjoy Rosh Hashanah Apple Picking

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., October 10, 2017 – As they do every year, families from Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI), the Reform synagogue in South Orange, gathered together to pick apples and enjoy the outdoors in celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. An enduring holiday symbol is the apple, usually dipped in honey to signify a sweet new year. Preschool and religious school families—some with grandparents in tow for intergenerational fun—met up at Hillview Farms in Gillette on Friday, September 22, when the South Orange and Maplewood public schools were closed for the holiday. In addition to picking apples, children enjoyed feeding the farm’s chickens while everyone also picked zinnias and selected fresh produce from the Hillview Farms store. Among them were Sandy Rustin Fleischer and her son Charlie, of Maplewood.
