Members of Essex County Chapter 1 Give Prayer of Unity

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., December 26, 2017 – Members of Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, Essex County 1 Chapter joined members of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange for a multi-generational Shabbat service on Friday evening, December 15. The women offered a special prayer of unity during the service, which was also marked by a performance by The Pursuit of Harmony, the musical duo of Jewish-American singer/songwriter Michael Ochs and Palestinian-Muslim peace activist/songwriter, Alaa Alshaham. The weekend, which fell during Hanukkah, was dedicated to building bridges of understanding and unity. Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom was founded to bring together Jewish and Muslim women to create relationships that fight hate and prejudice. Several members of TSTI are involved in the organization; among them are Alison Steiner of Maplewood (far left), Robbie Weissenberg (2nd from left) and Cynthia Wyatt, both of Short Hills (rear, far right). With them are Sewaye Yassin of South Orange (front, center) and Rabbi Alexandra Klein, Miniimah Bilal-Shakir of Hillside (rear, left) and Hadiyah Finney of North Brunswick. Wyatt and Finney are chapter co-leaders.
