Community Leaders Joined Effort to Raise Hunger Awareness

NEW CITY, N.Y., Sept. 22, 2015 – ShopRite of New City, an Inserra Supermarkets store, recently collected donations to help fill the shelves of community food banks and local nonprofits. The “Help Bag Hunger” event, held every September as part of National Hunger Awareness Month, included community leaders committed to highlighting the need for food security in their neighborhood. ShopRite associates and community volunteers partnered together to collect non-perishable items and donations for local food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, child care centers, battered women’s shelters, senior citizens programs, drug rehab centers, programs for the mentally and physically disabled, after-school programs and other organizations that aid those in need.

“Help Bag Hunger” is part of the ShopRite Partners In Caring Program. Since the program’s inception in 1999, more than $37 million has been donated to 1,700 hunger relief agencies in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
