NORTHVALE, N.J., Sept. 29, 2014 – ShopRite of Northvale, an Inserra Supermarkets store, is hosting a full roster of health and wellness programs throughout October. Samantha Pappas, R.D., in-store registered dietitian, will lead each of the offerings and provide easy-to-implement nutrition and wellness advice. The following free events are being held for local residents. All programs are open to the public, held at ShopRite of Northvale and do not require advance registration, unless otherwise noted:

Fri., Oct. 3 – High Fiber Friday, 2 – 4 p.m. Stop by the Dietitian's Corner to learn how to meet your fiber requirements in a delicious way every day.

Mon., Oct. 6 – Flu-Fighting Foods, 5 – 7 p.m. Learn and taste foods that will help keep you healthy during cold and flu season and all year-round. Lists of immune-boosting food suggestions will be available.

Tues., Oct. 7, 14, 21 & 28 – Eat Well, Be Happy 4-Week Weight Management Class, 6 – 7 p.m. This FREE four-week weight management class has been specially designed for customers with weight loss on their radar this fall. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.   

Wed., Oct. 8 – Culinary Workshop, 6 – 8 p.m. Learn from our very own culinary team how to cook up a healthy dish the whole family will enjoy tonight. Recipe cards will be available. Pre-registration is required.

Thurs., Oct. 9 – Freezer Find, noon – 2 p.m. Frozen food can be healthy. Stop by for a sample.

Thurs., Oct. 16 – An Apple a Day, noon – 2 p.m. Is the adage, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away," true? Find out at the Dietitian's Corner.

Wed., Oct. 22 – Kids' Cooking Class, 5 – 7 p.m. Youngsters can create and try new things while preparing a simple, healthy snack. Pre-registration is required.

Sat., Oct. 25 – Cabot sMOOthie Bike Event, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Customers of all ages can "Pedal Out Hunger" on Cabot Creamery Cooperative's human-powered sMOOthie blender bike to mix yogurt smoothies and log miles in an effort to raise hunger awareness. ShopRite of Northvale is competing against other stores to win 200 pounds of Cabot cheese for a local food pantry. 

Sun., Oct. 26 – Closter Farmer's Market, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Held at 20 Legion Pl., in Closter, stop by this farmer's market to sample a fresh fall recipe using locally grown produce. Halloween costumes are required!

Mon., Oct. 27 – Breast Cancer Awareness Event: Lowering your Risk, 5 – 7 p.m. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, learn about simple lifestyle changes that can lower your risk factors.

Wed., Oct. 29 – Healthy Halloween, 5 – 7 p.m. Get some tips for turning "frighteningly unhealthy" party favors into nutritious and fun spooky treats.

Thurs., Oct. 30 – Pumpkin Everything, noon – 2 p.m. More than just a decorative fall staple, pumpkin can be added to some of your favorite foods for a new twist of taste.
