LYNDHURST, N.J., Sept. 29, 2014 – ShopRite of Lyndhurst, an Inserra Supermarkets store, is hosting a full roster of health and wellness programs throughout October. Julie Harrington, R.D., in-store registered dietitian, will lead each of the offerings and provide easy-to-implement nutrition and wellness advice. The following free events are being held for local residents. All programs are open to the public, held at ShopRite of Lyndhurst and do not require advance registration, unless otherwise noted:

Thurs., Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 – Walking Club, 8 a.m. Looking for a simple group exercise regimen this fall? Join this weekly walking club for a one-mile trek throughout the store. The starting line is the Dietitian's Corner. Membership cards and prizes are awarded to all participants.

Mon., Oct. 6, 13, 20 & 27 – Eat Well, Be Happy 4-Week Weight Management Class, 6 – 7 p.m. This FREE four-week weight management class has been specially designed for customers with weight loss on their radar this fall. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.   

Sat., Oct. 4 – LiveRight with ShopRite Kids' Day Cooking Class, 10 – 10:45 a.m. Youngsters can create and try new things while preparing a simple, healthy snack. Pre-registration is required.

Sat., Oct. 4 – Cabot sMOOthie Bike Event, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Customers of all ages can "Pedal Out Hunger" on Cabot Creamery Cooperative's human-powered sMOOthie blender bike to mix yogurt smoothies and log miles in an effort to raise hunger awareness. ShopRite of Lyndhurst is competing against other stores to win 200 pounds of Cabot cheese for a local food pantry. 

Thurs., Oct. 9 – Flu-Fighting Foods, noon – 2 p.m. Learn and taste foods that will help keep you healthy during cold and flu season and all year-round. Lists of immune-boosting food suggestions will be available.

Tues., Oct. 14 & 21 – Produce Pick, noon – 2 p.m. This month's produce pick will be the "star" of a new dish prepared by the dietitian.

Thurs., Oct. 16 – Cooking Class with Chef Joe, 1 p.m. Learn from our very own culinary team of Chef Joe and dietitian Julie how to cook up a healthy dish the whole family will enjoy tonight. Recipe cards will be available. Pre-registration is required.

Wed., Oct. 22 – Fall Harvest Cooking Class, 3 p.m. & 6 p.m. Learn how to use fall's fresh bounty to prepare a unique delicious and nutritious meal. Pre-registration is required.

Thurs., Oct. 23 – Scary Facts about Sugar, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Zombies, goblins and sugar, oh my! The weeks before and after Halloween can be filled with extra sugar. Stop by the Dietitian's Corner for important sugar facts.

Fri., Oct. 24 & 31 – High Fiber Friday, noon – 2 p.m. Stop by the Dietitian's Corner to learn how to meet your fiber requirements in a delicious way every day.

Tues., Oct. 28 – Soups and Stocks Cooking Class, 1 p.m. & 5 p.m. There is something comforting about a steaming bowl of nourishing soup on a cold day. Learn how to make a tasty stock and a new soup recipe. Pre-registration is required.
