In-Store Activities Include Cooking Classes, Nutrition Education, Recipe Demonstrations and More

LYNDHURST, N.J., Nov. 2, 2016 – ShopRite of Lyndhurst, an Inserra Supermarkets store, will host an array of nutrition and wellness events throughout the month of November, which is National Diabetes Awareness Month. The store’s registered dietitians, Julie Harrington, R.D., and Nick Vessichelli, R.D. will lead each of the offerings and provide easy-to-implement advice. All programs are free, open to the public, held at ShopRite of Lyndhurst and do not require advance registration unless otherwise noted:

Thurs., Nov. 3, 10, 17, 24 – Julie’s Walking Club, 8 a.m. Meet every Thursday at the Dietitian’s Corner for a 1-mile walk inside the store with Julie, ShopRite’s in-store dietitian. Membership cards and prizes are awarded to participants.

Tues., Nov. 1, 4 – 6 p.m.; and Wed., Nov 16, 3 – 5 p.m. – Product Spotlight: Pasta-bilities: Nick, ShopRite’s in-store dietitian, will be sampling Hoboken Farms pasta sauce with Banza chickpea pasta! Come and taste the Pasta-bilities!

Fri., Nov. 4 – Produce Pick Demo, 1 – 3 p.m. Stop by for a taste of this week’s produce pick whipped up in a new recipe.

Sat., Nov. 5 – Sports Nutrition Seminar, 12 – 2 p.m. Please note space is limited, and sign-up with Nick is required. Call (201) 300-7783. Join Nick, ShopRite’s in-store dietitian, for an information session about sports nutrition. He will be covering the topics of pre and post workout nutrition, complex carbohydrates, and protein.

Sun., Nov. 6 – Free Glucose Screening, 10 – 2 p.m. Stop by the Dietitian’s Corner for a free glucose screening. Get your results instantly and with no fasting necessary. No appointment necessary.

Mon., Nov. 7, 1 – 3 p.m.; and Tues., Nov. 22, 12 – 2 p.m. – Healthy Holiday Side Dishes: Nick, ShopRite’s in-store dietitian, will be whipping up some delicious and nutritious Thanksgiving side dishes. Recipes and samples will be provided.

Wed., Nov. 9 – Free Kid’s Snacking Class, 4 p.m. Please note space is limited, and sign-up with Nick is required. Call (201) 300-7783. Nick, ShopRite’s dietitian, will be leading this fun, hand-on cooking experience for kids.

Thurs, Nov. 10 – Free Health Screenings, 2 – 6 p.m. Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield will be offering free health screenings including, blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose. Get your results instantly. No fasting necessary. ShopRite’s in-store dietitian will be there to provide tips and information on disease prevention. No appointment necessary.

Thurs, Nov. 10 – Living Well with Diabetes Program, 6 – 8 p.m. Please note space is limited, and sign-up with Julie is required. Julie is teaming up with Dana, the in-store dietitian of ShopRite of Wallington and Registered Nurse, Jane Rivers for an educational diabetes program helping you manage your diabetes within your everyday life.

Sat., Nov. 12, 12 – 2 p.m.; and Wed., Nov. 30, 3 – 5 p.m. – Meal of the Week Sampling: Stumped on what to cook for dinner? Visit the Dietitian’s Corner and have a taste of our featured Meal of the Week.

Mon., Nov. 14, 1 p.m. and Mon., Nov. 28, 5:30 p.m. – Living Well with Diabetes Grocery Store Tour. Please note space is limited, and sign-up with Nick is required. Call (201) 300-7783. Join Nick, ShopRite’s in-store dietitian, for a grocery tour focusing on eating well for diabetes. He will discuss what to look for on the nutrition label.

Thurs., Nov. 17 – Thanksgiving Cooking Class, 1 p.m. Join Julie, ShopRite’s in-store dietitian, for a fun class filled with new recipes and healthy makeovers of the classics.

Fri., Nov. 18 – Diabetes Support Group, 11 – 1 p.m. Julie, Shoprite’s in-store dietitian, will be on-hand to answer questions about diabetes. The support group is open to everyone whether you have diabetes or know someone with diabetes.

Sun., Nov. 20 – Free Kid’s Day Cooking Class, session 1 at 12 p.m., session 2 at 2:30 p.m. Please note space is limited, and sign-up with Julie is required. Bring the kids to this fun, healthy cooking class to encourage them to try new foods.

Mon., Nov. 21 – Teen Cooking Class, 5 p.m. Join ShopRite’s dietitians, Julie and Nick, for a hands-on cooking class to gain confidence in the kitchen and learn new healthy recipes. For ages 13-18.

Fri., Nov. 25 – Liven-Up Thanksgiving Leftovers, 12 – 2 p.m. Stop by the Dietitian’s Corner to visit Nick and pick up some healthy ideas on how to revamp Thanksgiving leftovers.

Tues, Nov. 29 – Snack Attack, 12 – 2 p.m. Learn healthy eating habits from Nick, ShopRite’s dietitian. He will be offering some great snack ideas and providing samples.

Tues, Nov. 29 – Living Well with Diabetes Cooking Class, 6 p.m. Join Julie, ShopRite’s in-store dietitian, to learn more about eating a balanced meal to balance your blood sugar. Pick up new recipe ideas the whole family will love.

All Inserra Supermarkets’ Pharmacy Departments provide flu shots. Walk-ins are welcome, and most insurance plans are accepted. No insurance? Not a problem. Ask the pharmacist for details.
