Public is Invited to Attend Free Adult Education Classes and Film Screening at South Orange Synagogue

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., March 13, 2017 – Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange invites area residents to the following adult education classes, which are free and open to the public:

  • Thurs., March 23 – The TSTI clergy and congregants will gather to share “Tips for Planning a Memorable Seder” at 7:00 p.m. While there are many ideas on how to make the Passover seder appealing to children, adults may also need a creative lift. Attendees will hear ideas to help make the Feast of Freedom fun, meaningful and memorable for adults. Register online at
  • Sat., March 25 – TSTI will hold a film screening of “Zero Motivation,” an Israeli comedy about women who serve in a remote army base in the desert, at 7:00 p.m. There will be a discussion about the movie facilitated by Dr. Eric Goldman, a scholar on Israeli, Jewish and Yiddish film, as well as a wine and cheese reception. The film, in Hebrew with English subtitles, won “Best New Feature” and “Best Director” (Talya Lavie) at the Tribeca Film Festival.   • Wed., March 29 – Join TSTI’s Renaissance group at this insightful Lunch & Learn program, “Buber and Heschel: One God, Two Theologies.” Rabbi Alexandra Klein will lead a study session on Martin Buber and Abraham Joshua Heschel, two of modern Judaism’s most beloved theologians. Their perspectives of the relationship between God and humanity shape much of Reform Judaism’s views of faith and divinity. The group will study excerpts from the writings of these two great thinkers. Lunch starts at 12pm with the program beginning at 12:45pm.The program is free but there is a $10 fee for lunch.
