Family-Owned Grocery Chain Targets November of 2017 for Opening of Modern, 62,042-SF Store

WYCKOFF, N.J., Dec. 14, 2016 – Inserra Supermarkets has begun demolition at the site of the planned ShopRite of Wyckoff at the corner of Greenwood and Wyckoff Avenues. The family-owned grocery chain is targeting November of 2017 for the opening of a modern, 62,042-square-foot store.

Inserra Supermarkets had earned the unanimous approval of the Township of Wyckoff’s Planning Board in February of 2013 following 38 public meetings over a three-year period. However, on-going litigation from competitor-objector Stop & Shop has stalled construction and breaking ground of the future store. Inserra Supermarkets has successfully turned back every legal challenge at both the Superior Court and Appellate Division levels. One final appeal from Stop & Shop is before the Appellate Division, and  arguments in that case were heard last month. A decision is expected shortly.

“We are thrilled to finally take these preliminary site preparation steps and be moving toward our goal of opening a modern supermarket in Wyckoff next year,” said Lawrence Inserra, Jr., chairman and CEO of Inserra Supermarkets. The family-owned grocery chain owns and operates 22 ShopRite stores in New Jersey and New York, and is well recognized as a good corporate citizen.

“It’s about time!” added Jim Jaworski, Esq., counsel for Inserra Supermarkets.

Building designs and heights of the planned ShopRite of Wyckoff reflect the historic character and architecture of surrounding commercial and residential buildings. In addition to invoking traditional architecture, installation of almost an acre of new landscaping will significantly enhance the site and exceed the township’s green space requirements.

Established in 1954 by Patsy Inserra as a privately-held family business, Inserra Supermarkets remains true to its roots as a family-owned grocery chain committed to serving families and children. Today, the company owns and operates ShopRites in Bayonne, Emerson, Fair Lawn, Hackensack, Hillsdale, Hoboken, Jersey City, Lodi, Lyndhurst, New Milford, Northvale, North Bergen, Palisades Park, Ramsey, Wallington, Wayne and West Milford in N.J. and in Rockland County, N.Y., in Garnerville, New City, Stony Point, Tallman and West Nyack, as well as a PriceRite store in Garfield, N.J.
