February: Get Heart Healthy with ShopRite of Northvale’s Array of Free Nutrition Counseling and Wellness Happenings During American Heart Month

Events Include Cholesterol Screenings, Recipe Demonstrations and More

NORTHVALE, N.J., Feb. 1, 2017 – This February, ShopRite of Northvale, an Inserra Supermarkets store, is holding an array of free nutrition counseling and wellness events, including those focused on heart health during American Heart Month. The store’s registered dietitian, Jenna Amos, R.D., is presenting innovative techniques for shopping, food selections and recipe preparations. All events are open to the public, held at ShopRite of Northvale and do not require advance registration unless otherwise noted:

Sat., Feb. 4 – Big Game Snacks, 12 – 3 p.m. Score a touchdown with your game day guests with nutritious and flavorful snacks. Visit the Dietitian’s Corner for samples and recipes.

Tues., Feb. 7 – Produce Pick, 12 – 2 p.m. Jenna will be mixing the best of February produce into a delicious dish. Stop by for a sample and some recipes.

Mon., Feb. 13 and 20 – Meal of the Week Recipe Sampling, 3 – 5 p.m. Stumped on what to cook for dinner? Visit the Produce Department, where you can pick up a recipe as well as all of the ingredients you need to create a complete meal.

Tues., Feb. 14 – Valentine’s Day Treats, 12 – 2 p.m. Sweeten up your special someone’s day with treats that are delicious and nutritious. Jenna will be sampling better-for-you sweet treats you can make just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Wed., Feb. 15 – Adult Culinary Workshop Class, 6 – 8 p.m. Please note that pre-registration at Customer Service is required. Join us in creating a healthy and delicious meal. This month’s theme is “Modern Mediterranean,” featuring a menu of seared salmon and lentils, Brussels sprout skewers, beet salad and chocolate truffles. The cost is $20 per person. 

Fri., Feb. 17 – High Fiber Friday, 1 – 3 p.m. Did you know that fiber in our diet plays an important role in heart health in addition to helping keep away cravings? Drop by the Dietitian’s Corner to learn about the importance of fiber in the diet and sample heart smart Hippeas organic chickpea puffs.

Wed., Feb. 22 – Cooking Class for Kids, 5 – 7 p.m. Please note that pre-registration at Customer Service is required.  Bring in your little chefs for a hands-on cooking class with our chef and dietitian team. This month’s theme is “Adventures in Global Eating,” featuring a menu of Moroccan sweet potato and lentil cakes, Italian spaghetti pie and Greek rice pudding. The cost is $10 for one child accompanied by an adult.

Sat., Feb. 25 – Free Cholesterol Screenings, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Knowing your numbers is a great step toward preventing or controlling heart disease. Stop by ShopRite of Northvale for a free screening and pick up info on heart healthy habits while enjoying nutritious snacks.

Sun., Feb. 26 – Heart Healthy Snacks, 12 – 3 p.m. Drop in the Dietitian’s Corner for samples of healthy snacks that will do your heart good.
