Lease Commitment Underscores Continued Momentum in Township’s Retail Marketplace

LIVINGSTON, N.J., Sept. 28, 2015 – Mid-priced home furnishings store Bassett Home Furnishings recently celebrated its grand opening at Livingston Circle Route 10 in Livingston, becoming the latest national retailer to join the township’s burgeoning retail marketplace. Located on heavily traveled Route 10 West, the site is adjacent to The Shoppes at the Livingston Circle and is part of the retail activity at the Circle.

Both retail sites are managed and developed by Livingston-based Eastman Companies.

The transaction was negotiated by David Perlmutter of Perlmutter Properties for Eastman Companies. Jamie Sackeim of The Dartmouth Company represented the tenant.

Bassett Home Furnishings joins a wave of new retailers, restaurants and service providers that have recently opened in the township. In the last year Livingston has seen more than 30 new businesses either set up shop or announce plans to open here, including leading national brands such as beauty superstore ULTA, 18/8 Fine Men’s Salon, The Container Store, Buy Buy Baby, World Market, DSW Shoes, TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack, among many others.

At Eastman’s The Shoppes at the Livingston Circle, specialty grocer The Fresh Market opened last fall in a 23,000-square-foot portion of the center’s former Pathmark store.  “Since The Fresh Market opened we also welcomed Choice Pet Supply, Ike’s Bagel Café, and Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa,” said Peter Schofel, Eastman’s co-managing partner. “Livingston’s attributes make it extremely attractive to a range of local, regional and national tenants who are experiencing tremendous success here.”

Florian Suserman of Ripco Real Estate Corp., exclusive broker for The Shoppes at the Livingston Circle, agrees. “Route 10 is one of the state’s major retail corridors, and there is a tremendous amount of wealth and education in the marketplace. In addition, shoppers here are very sophisticated, knowledgeable and brand-conscious. This combination of qualities continues to draw businesses to Livingston, and has made the township a new hotbed of retail activity in Northern New Jersey,” he said.

Addressing the addition of The Fresh Market to the area’s retail mix, Suserman adds, “Combined with the center’s recent renovations and planned opening of the Container Store nearby, it has turned The Shoppes at the Livingston Circle into the epicenter of the Livingston retail scene.”

A Desirable Retail Address
The new 12,600-square-foot Bassett Home Furnishings store is located in the space formerly occupied by Golfsmith, according to Schofel. “This premier location – directly on Route 10 just off the Livingston traffic circle – makes it a desirable address for any retail tenant,” he said. “We are confident that Bassett Home Furnishings will be a tremendous asset to the shopping area and the community for many years to come.”

The center fronts one of the busiest and most business-productive highways in northwestern Essex County. Its tenants include Men’s Warehouse and a recently opened Dunkin’ Donuts. Capital improvements to the center and the adjacent The Shoppes at the Livingston Circle – including a new façade and new lighting – have enhanced the center’s aesthetic appeal.

Bassett Home Furnishings features the latest on-trend furniture styles for every room of the home, along with more than 1,000 upholstery fabrics, free in-home design visits and coordinated decorating accessories. The new Livingston store represents the retailer’s first Essex County location.

“We conducted extensive market research, and determined that Livingston’s exceptional demographics and thriving retail scene made this center the perfect fit for this newest Bassett Home Furnishings location,” said Paul Massood, managing partner. “We look forward to introducing the Bassett Home Furnishings brand to consumers who live and work in the community.
